HCHS is an inclusive support group for homeschoolers and unschoolers in and around the Hamilton County, Indiana area. Our group was started ten years ago by two homeschooling moms (both of whom are still active in the group), who saw a need for a different kind of homeschool group. We began with a handful of families, have continued to grow year after year, and now have over 200 mailing list members.
HCHS is a free and completely member-led group, which means we have no leaders, no dues, and no formal structure. We are simply families who wish to share our joys and concerns with other homeschoolers while providing our children with opportuntities for education and friendship.
MISSION STATEMENT: The primary purpose of Hamilton County Homeschoolers (HCHS) is to provide an opportunity for social interaction, support and the sharing of information among homeschoolers and unschoolers in and around the Hamilton County area.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Hamilton County Homeschoolers (HCHS) has no membership requirements. We are open to anyone interested in homeschooling/unschooling regardless of age, race, religion, or educational philosophy. However, it is requested that all HCHS members be respectful of the different lifestyles and religious and educational philosophies within the group.
RELIGIOUS/EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY: Because we have chosen to keep HCHS open to all homeschoolers, the main group shall remain inclusive in nature and shall not support or endorse one religion or philosophy over another. We do, however, recognize that our members need to connect and share with like-minded families. For that reason, HCHS shall allow the formation of member-sponsored sub-groups.
SUB-GROUP POLICY: Sub-groups are subject to one rule only: Sub-groups and their facilitators are not representative of HCHS as a whole and therefore are asked not to speak on behalf of HCHS. Otherwise, sub-group facilitators are free to determine their own membership requirements, dues, etc. and may have their events listed on the HCHS calendar of events if they choose. Sub-groups can be religious in nature, but may also be formed to meet academic needs (such as science or math sub-clubs), to connect children of similar ages (such as pre-school, pre-teen, or teen subgroups), or for any other reason that our members see fit. Sub-groups are not required to be inclusive.
