SCHOOLS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD (SCW) establishes partnerships with the communities in which we build schools. Our goal is to help local community members design and build a school, empowering them to use the experience to make further improvements to their community and the surrounding region. The community generally provides the land, volunteer labor, local materials, etc. We provide planning and design assistance, as well as materials and financial support to employ an experienced contractor to lead the project. We also partner with other organizations, including governmental entities and nongovernmental organizations that fund and support specific portions of projects that interest them. We are very flexible in how we work with local communities and project partners. For example, if donors want 100 percent of their monies directed toward a specific project, we make that happen. SCW has grown. There is now a SCW:Canada and a SCW:Honduras. Each of these are non-profit organizations which operates with its own cash flow and is registered in its respective country. Both facilitate projects on their own as well as in partnership with us. Our typical cost per classroom for new construction is $25,000. That includes all planning, design, construction, and construction administration costs. This is sometimes a bit more than the average government-built structure because we feel it is important to ensure the building meets certain educational and construction guidelines. In addition to new schools, SCW still focuses on the renovation of existing schools. We accomplish this through volunteer trips to Honduras in February and July of each year. ![]() CURRENT PROJECTS: SCW is working on 14 projects in seven countries...
