Haiku Northwest 2015 Annual Meeting

As the Washington State region of the Haiku Society of America, Haiku Northwest starts a new tradition in 2015 by having its first-ever annual meeting. Join us on Saturday, May 9, in Seattle’s funky Fremont neighborhood—the self-proclaimed center of the universe. The theme for this meeting will be urban haiku, starting out with an urban haiku walk in the morning, a scrumptious lunch, and then urban haiku presentations in the afternoon. All events are free and open to everyone (and feel free to bring your Fremont funk). Here’s our schedule of events, subject to change:

10:00 am Meet on the Fremont Library porch, 731 N. 35th Street in Seattle, for the start of our Fremont haiku walk.

11:30 am Lunch at Blue Moon Burgers, 703 N. 34th Street, Seattle (vegetarian and gluten-free options available). Write weathergrams during lunch.

12:45 pm Hang weathergrams on the Waiting for the Interurban statue and then return to the library.

1:00 pm Meet at the Fremont Library. Introductions and rounds of haiku sharing.

1:20 pm “Nature Here” talk by Kim Dietz, about her nature walk programs and ways to increase our access to nature in urban areas.

1:30 pm “The City and the Haiku Poet” presentation by Dianne Garcia.

2:30 pm Short break.

2:45 pm “Taking It to the Streets: Urban Haiku Workshop,” led by Michael Dylan Welch.

4:15 pm Final round of haiku and clean-up.
