Our mission is to improve the quality of healthcare available in rural medical clinics in Rwanda
Why Men,
women and children in poor countries like Rwanda suffer and die from diseases
that are treatable. We believe every person deserves access to basic
healthcare, and we are determined to provide for this need in the impoverished,
remote villages of Rwanda.
How We
work closely with a clinic’s staff to understand their specific needs; we partner
with local Rwandan government agencies and worldwide humanitarian organizations
for efficient, culturally-appropriate implementation; and we raise the funds
necessary to transport and otherwise satisfy the medical needs.
What For
our current project, we are planning to send a 40-foot sea container filled
with donated medical equipment and supplies to the Mwogo Health Center where members
of our team visited and identified extreme need. Items to be sent include beds,
linens, exam tables, diagnostic equipment, pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical
refrigerator, and much more. We also hope to assist the clinic’s community
education program.
Where The
Mwogo Health Center is located in the Bugasera District of Rwanda, one of the areas most
devastated by the 1994 genocide. Mwogo is a very remote village, accessible
only by deeply rutted, difficult-to-maneuver dirt
roads. When a villager cannot
receive the medical care he/she needs at the Mwogo Clinic
(due to lack of
equipment, supplies, medicines, etc.) the next closest medical facility is an
additional
4-hour walk. For a sick person that can be an impossible distance.
When Our
goal is to transport the medical equipment to Mwogo by the end of 2009. The
exact shipping date will be determined when enough funds are raised to cover
the transportation costs. We are open to helping
additional rural clinics in
the future, once the work at Mwogo Health Center is complete.
