Founded in early 2008, Hope and Health for Rwanda's mission is to improve the quality of health care available in rural medical clinics in Rwanda. We are currently raising money to ship approximately $400,000-worth of donated medical equipment and supplies to Mwogo Health Center in 2009. Read more on our Missions page.
Mwogo is located in the Bugesera district in the East Province of Rwanda. Click here to see the location on Google Maps. Here are some Mwogo Health Center success stories:
* Running Water! See the photos
* Solar-based electricity by The Access Project
* Access road and infrastructure improvements
“As a registered nurse in the U.S., I was taken aback at the extremely difficult conditions I saw at the Mwogo Health Center. The facility is in desperate need of even the most basic equipment and supplies. There is no source of water – it must be carried in and boiled for sterilization. A small, unreliable generator and a single battery-powered light bulb in the delivery room comprise all the power available in the clinic. I do not see how they can prevent the spread of disease and infections in their existing state. The delivery room is particularly ill-equipped and void of comfort for newborns and their mothers. It broke my heart. They have no equipment for prenatal care or complicated deliveries, not even a simple fetal scope. On the other hand, the staff is kind and dedicated, and I found it truly amazing what they were able to do with so little. I am hoping and praying that we’ll be able to send medical equipment to them in the near future. It will drastically change their lives.”
