If you can't see the ladder it's because you need to have set up a google documents account with your username as your contact email address and be logged in (scroll down right to the bottom of this page). ·       You can choose to accept a challenge from someone 11 or more places lower than you

·       Matches can be played as best of 3 tie-break sets - although if short of time can play a championship tie-break to 10 points instead of 3rd set

·       Matches can also be played as best of 2 short sets and a match tie break (at one set all).

A match tie break is a 10 point tie break. A short set, is a set to four games by two clear games. E.g 4-1, 4-2 if you reach 4  all you play a tie break.

·       If a lower player beats a higher player, the lower player moves to the higher player's place and everyone in-between moves down one place

Ratings

·       There are 20 rating bands. A rating of 1.1 is the highest level and 10.2 is the lowest.

·       The ratings scale goes (from the lowest): 10.2, 10.1, 9.2, 9.1, 8.2, 8.1 and so on until 1.2 and finally 1.1.

·       Junior beginners will start with a rating of 10.2 and adult beginners will start with a 9.2.

Qualifying Matches

·       A qualifying win (QW) = a win against a player rated the same or higher than you.

·       A qualifying loss (QL) = a loss against a player rated the same or lower than you.

·       Win/loss ratio: QW x 100 / (QW+QL)

Improving Ratings

Junior and adult players rated 10.2, 10.1, 9.2 or 9.1 can improve their ratings by recording qualifying wins as follows:

  • 4 qualifying wins (singles matches) to move from a 10.2 to 10.1
  • A further 4 qualifying wins (singles matches) to move from a 10.1 to 9.2
  • A further 4 qualifying wins (singles matches) to move from a 9.2 to 9.1
  • A further 4 qualifying wins (singles matches) to move from a 9.1 to 8.2

These wins can be achieved at any time, ie. not restricted to a ratings run period. Your rating will automatically change once you have the correct number of wins and your results have been recorded.  The (overnight) calculation takes into account players' ratings as they stand at the time the calculation is made.

If you are a junior with a rating of 8.2 or higher, you need to achieve:

  •  6 qualifying wins (was 7 prior to 01/04/2011) with a 60% win/loss ratio in all qualifying matches

If you are an adult player with a rating of 8.2 or higher you need to achieve:

  • 3 qualifying wins with a 60% win/loss ratio in all qualifying matches
Your rating is calculated four times a year, at the end of the winter and summer seasons and now also mid-season. Your new rating will depend on your results in matches during the previous six months (3 months for mid-season rating reviews), but note that your rating is not guaranteed to change each time. Only adults with a rating of 5.1 or better can have their rating decreased, and this can only happen once a year, at the end of the summer. Junior players will never go down to a lower rating.
