Willis Cook tells the story of when he filled in one time for a caller at their square dance class. The other guy had taught only a couple of classes, so this was a brand new group. Willis had them bow and circle left. Then he called "Allemande Left and Right & Left Grand". The entire floor came to a halt. Willis was stunned and asked what was wrong. Someone said, "We've never heard of Alabama Left". | Mike Sikorsky recently told Willis Cook this story: One time at a dance this lady came up to Mike after a tip and said that she didn't know how to do the move "Turtle Soup", that she had never heard it before. Mike said he had never heard it either. The lady said, "But you just called it a few minutes ago!" Mike knew he didn't call Turtle Soup, but he couldn't figure out what move the lady was referring to, so he told her that if he called it again, to wave to him. She agreed. Sure enough, in another tip Mike noticed the lady waving vigorously. He broke out laughing, because the move he had just called was "Triple Scoot"!!! |
