I found this earliest known version of LOTRO (even before they added graphics) during my endless web roaming. I think it must have been some kind of proof of concept. It's a little buggy, you have to attack a defeated oppenent to loot it, and to go up a level when you are ready. It also does nothing if you and the mob miss, so you may need to hit attack a few times to see anything sometimes. But you can see some common themes even in this earliest work: boars, bears, athelas, and even traits.
 
 
I have upgraded this game for the re-release of my website. I fixed some errors and worked on balance. It now is actually pretty fun. It is more of a challenge all the way through.
 
Same quaint bug of entering values still exists, but that makes it less fun. You can also still go through the game multiple times, as it resets after killing Sauron, but you keep your stats.
 
I have found Shields to be extremely important. Some mobs hit for a lot now. I have also found Arkenstone stacking to be a valid strat.
