I give here a story that I wrote for a children's short-story collection......

The Scarecrow.

When I was little and that was a very long time ago, I saw the movie The Wizard of Oz.  In this Dorothy, a girl who lives on a farm gets caught in a tornado and lands in the Land of Oz There she meets the Tin-man, The Scarecrow and the Lion who are all going to the Wizard of Oz to get their questions answered and wishes fulfilled. They have many adventures but like true and responsible friends, they help each other through all the way.

 

I liked the Scarecrow very much. He was such a helpful soul although he had no real body.

The scarecrow had only one wish. He wanted to become a nice man and a good friend to his companions.

I decided I will become good and strong like the scarecrow. He was my model.

 

The one day there was a Fancy Dress competition in my father’s club. Everyone including the children was invited to come dressed in some wonderful new role and new dress.

So I tied straw all over my body and wore clothes that I specially re-stitched by hand and put patches etc to make them look old and torn. I even dirtied them a little more in the mud.

I was very happy. My father took a photograph and then we all went to the club to take part in the competition. I received a prize and I was very proud.
