Guilford Indians Volleyball 2011

Congrats to Meg Goodrich -

2nd Team All-State Player, 2011

Thank You and Congratulations

Thank you to all of the Guilford volleyball players, coaches and parents for a wonderful season!  Our success was due to the hard work and dedication of the athletes, coaches and parents who spent the past two and a half months learning, growing and coming together as a team.  The support from our parents was astounding.  Our booster club has grown in participation as well.

Upcoming Matches

Attitude:

There’s always the motivation of wanting to win. Everybody has that. But a champion needs, in his attitude, a motivation above and beyond winning. – Pat Riley

Effort:

Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit. – Vince Lombardi

Communication:

The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime. – Babe Ruth

A final thought:  This is a quote from the movie “A League of Their Own.”  In the scene, the main player says to her coach that the game “just got too hard.”  His response:

"It's supposed to be hard.  If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it.  The hard....is what makes it great!"

Achievements

Made SCC and State Tournament 3 years in a row!  That hadn't been done in over 20 years.

Made it to the SCC Tournament Championship Match.  That hadn't been done since 1993

Hammonasset Division Champions!  That hadn't been done since 1999

State Tournament:

Going into the 2011 Tournament, Guilford is ranked 4th in Class L, the highest we've been since 1993.

Equipment

While none of the equipment listed below is required, it is highly recommended for any girls who make the team.

No equipment need be purchased for tryouts although it's always advantageous to wear the proper supportive equipment.

Active Ankles - These, in my opinion, are the most essential piece of equipment keeping volleyball players healthy and in games.  A sprained ankle is, by far and away, the most common injury a volleyball player sustains.  Help avoid them by wearing your Active Ankles at all times!

Knee Pads - Knee pads will be highly recommended for all players this year.

Shorts - These shorts can be picked up at many local stores as opposed to ordering them.  Just make sure the logo is very tiny on the leg.  Black is the color we go with for all three teams.

Volleyball Court Shoes

These sites listed above are simply there to get you a starting point.  You are in no way obligated to purchase from these sites only.

Once again, with the understanding that volleyball equipment is expensive, please do not purchase equipment until your daughter has made the one of the three teams at Guilford High School.
