The Edinburgh International Festival programme 2009 is quite simply outstanding. There is something for all tastes whether it is the theatre, music, visual arts, talks ad workshops, dance or opera.
During the festival the city of Edinburgh becomes completly transformed into a different place with the streets full of street artists, shows and much more. It becomes the largest arts festival in the world. You would not want to miss the excitment.
There is something for everyone and numerous shows held in locations and venues all around the city, sometimes in the most interesting places. It has been known that some shows have even taken place in public toilets of all places. However, if this is not for you there are still things to explore above ground from music to art to comedy and much more.
Some names appearing at the festival this year are Lisa Milne - Scotland owns acclaimed soprano, Elisabeth Leonskaja - with piano music from Chopin and many more. Some events taking place this year are Macbeth as a concert performance sung in Italian on Friday the 21st of August at 7:30pm at the User hall.
Dance band night will give you a night of a hugh variety of music and provide you with a colourful eveing of dance music. This venue for this event is The Hub on Saturday the 22nd August at 9:30pm.
If talks and workshops are more your thing then why not try attending Conversation: The last witch where Rona Munro, playwrite dicusses the creation of a world premiere on Tuesday the 25th of August at 5pm at The Hub.
On the last evening of the festival, Edinburgh hosts a large firework concert in Princes Street gardens where the Scottish Chamber Orchestra perform some of Handel's most famous works. The concert will begin at 9pm on Sunday the 6th of September. Due to the popularity of this event it is advisable to book ahead to guarantee tickets.
Tickets for the festival can be purchased from the official Edinburgh International Festival website (found below), by phone found on the festival website. From the 6th of April tickets can also be bought from The Edinburgh Playhouse and The Queen's Hall. During the festival tickets can be bought by personal callers at some venues.
All tickets can be collected by post or at the Venue one hour before the performance starts.
