Hello! My name is Ms. Laura Guffey. This is my third year teaching fourth grade, and I am very excited to be a crocodile at Sycamore Creek! I love fourth grade, because I think 9 and 10 year olds are very smart and ready to take charge of their own learning. I also love the terrific literature at this grade level, working with multiple digit numbers for multiplication and division, and learning about our wonderful state of North Carolina! I know you are going to love fourth grade too!
I graduated from N. C. State what seems like a million years ago and worked for several years until I had my first child. Then I spent the next 15 years taking care of my family, which includes my three children, Stephanie (17), Mary (14), and William (10). I always loved volunteering with children in educational settings, so I went back to college (N. C. Central) to get my teaching license. Now, my son and I are both Sycamore Creek crocs!
When I'm not at school, I like to spend a lot of time with my family. In addition to my children, I have three brothers and three sisters. I'm lucky that several of them, along with my mom, live right around Raleigh! During my quiet times, I love to read, read, read, and take walks.
