This week we have just finished learning about sedimentary rocks. We have started an investigation of the last type of rocks found in the rock cycle, metamorphic rocks. Students have been learning about the changes that can change one rock type into another. For example, did you know that limestone changes into marble? Or that the sedimentary rock sandstone can change into the metamorphic rock quartzite? Metamorphic rocks are interesting and fun. Metamorphic rocks are the last type of rocks found in the rock cycle. The rock cycle is the process that is on going as rocks are constantly being changed. Heat and pressure can change any rock type into a metamorphic rock. Scientific American Podcast: 60 Second Science: Recent Announcements: Building Community: Building a strong classroom community is important from me. I feel strongly about students learning science within the context of a happy, healthy, and supportive classroom community! During science students got to know one another by talking with their shoulder partners about silly questions. It was nice to see how all the students interacted and were polite and respectful. Building community in the science classroom will only help our students be better at science! Remember: "Don't Fear Success" Students know that they will work hard everyday in science and have full learning. We all have a common goal in the class, and that is to be successful. created by: Mariano Guerra ©2008 e-mail comments: guerrascience@gmail.com

Our Goal: Osborn School District #8 http://www.osbornnet.org The goal of the Science program at Osborn Middle School is to provide every student with an opportunity to develop their Science process skills through engaging hands-on science investigations. Science students will be asked to discover the world in which they live by problem solving real-world applications and interactions. Everyone is a scientist at Osborn Middle School and we hope to inspire and develop our students natural curiosity into a love for Science. Vocabulary Spotlight:
