Tournament Rules - Mardi Gras Squash Tournament 2011

1.1 At any time before the draw is released, the Tournament Director(s) reserve the right to combine, increase or cancel events depending on the number of entries. If an event is cancelled, players are entitled to a refund if they do not wish to enter another grade

2. TOURNAMENT DETAILS

2.1. The tournament is a G Squash event and the Organising Committee shall have entire control of the tournament.

2.2. The tournament dates are Saturday 16th (9-30am- 3.30pm) at Sydney University Sports & Aquatic centre. All players enter on the basis that they may be scheduled to play matches at anytime during this day

2.3. The address of Sydney University Sports & Aquatic centre is cnr Coddrington & Darlington Roads Darlington

2.4. Requests to not play at a time will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and only if scheduling permits, however, no requests will be considered after the draw is released. Requests, with the reasons outlined, are to be made in writing to the Tournament Director(s) and attached with the Entry Form. The Tournament Director(s) decision on the request is final.

2.6. The Grading Committee for the tournament are David Smith, Ray Lance and Mike Howard

3. ENTRY

To ensure each bank transfer correctly matches to a player's Entry Form,

3.2. The closing date for receiving of entries is Tuesday 15th February 2011. Entries must be received by this date. Late entries will not be accepted.

3.3. Players must provide an email address so that the draw can be sent. Players must provide at least one (1) contact telephone number should the Tournament Director(s) need to contact any player.

4. FEES

4.1. The entry fee is $40.

4.2. Players are not officially entered until all fees are paid. Fees are to be paid at the time of submitting entry to the tournament (refer to clause 3.1). Fees not received with the Entry Form or payments that are not honoured will result in the entry not being recognised until payment is made.

5. ENTERING EVENTS

5.1. Players enter a maximum of one (1) event from the Table of Events in clause 1.1.

5.2. For the purpose of the tournament, Open, A, B, C events are graded events..(women & men combined)

5.3. The Grading Committee, which consists of the members in clause 2.6, reserves the right to amend a player's entry form to enter them in the appropriate graded event.

5.4. The Grading Committee will take account the number and depth of players in individual events, and any other factor it deems appropriate. The Grading Committee's decision on a player's appropriate grade is final.

5.5. All events and grades will be offered for entry by women

6. FORMAT

6.1. Events will be played as a Round Robin format. Each match will be 1set to 21 - (short game at 20 all) - this may be amended to 15 if entries are excessive

6.2. The Tournament Director(s) will make a decision on the format of events and matches after the closing date for entries (15th February 2011).

6.3. The draw, including the final format of events and matches, will be released & announced on Tuesday 15th February 2011 - players will also be advised by email.

6.4. There will be NO time limit to matches (all matches will be played in full), however, the Tournament Director(s) reserve the right to shorten matches if it is warranted by a long backlog of matches and/or any other circumstances

6.5. In a Round Robin event, the winners shall be determined on the following basis in order of priority:

(a) Most sets won; then (b) Highest ratio of points won/lost (if equal in ratio of sets won/lost).

6.7. If there is still a tie, victories during Round Robin play will decide the tie (for example, if Player A and Player B are still tied after considering 6.6(a) to 6.6(b) above, then a play off will occur time permitting that day or at a mutually AGREED TIME .

6.8. In the event that a player withdraws during the Round Robin Rounds, all results against that player, whether they have been complete or not, will be excluded from the final tally for that Round Robin Group.

7. PLAYERS' RESPONSIBILITIES

7.1. It is the responsibility of all players to ascertain the date and time they are required to play by consulting the draw when it is released (refer to clause 6.3).

7.2. Players should be present at the tournament site to report to the control desk at least 15 minutes before they are scheduled to play. Subject to the Tournament Director(s) discretion, players who are not ready for play at their allotted time after a match is called will be penalised as follows:

(a) 5 minutes - 5 points penalty (+ loss of toss)

(b) 5:01 - 14 minutes - 10 points penalty (+ loss off toss)

(d) 15 minutes late or later - defaulted (if it is a Round Robin match, the opposing player or team who is present will be awarded maximum points while the defaulted player or team will receive no points).

7.3. During a match, the Umpire has final say as to the result of each point

7.4. Players who behave poorly or in an unsportsmanlike manner may be defaulted from the event, or from the whole tournament, at the discretion of the Tournament Director(s) and in consultation with the Disputes Committee. Players who are defaulted for poor or unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be entitled to a refund.

7.5 No player will be admitted to the Tournament or permitted to play on the day if the player is, in the opinion or discretion of the Tournament Director(s) under the influence of any substance, alcohol, drugs or any other substance such that the player behaves poorly, in an unsportsmanlike manner or who fails to follow the directions of the Tournament Director(s) concerning the conduct of the Tournament. If such circumstances occur, the Tournament Director(s) is entitled to suspend or otherwise terminate the player’s participation in the Tournament in his absolute discretion and the player is not thereby entitled to any refund of the player’s registration fees. 

7.6 The Tournament Director(s) reserve the right to reschedule match times due to unforeseen circumstances. Players must make themselves available to play matches which are rescheduled during the tournament dates (refer to clause 2.2). 

7.7. If there is doubt about the conditions, it is the responsibility of all players to consult the Tournament Director(s) to determine whether matches will be cancelled or delayed. Players should NOT assume that matches will be cancelled or delayed due to unforeseen circumstances 

7.8 If the whole Tournament is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances before it has started, the Tournament Director(s) will make a decision on whether the Tournament will be abandoned or rescheduled for another time. 

7.9 If the Tournament is abandoned, all players will receive a full refund. If the Tournament is rescheduled, those who are unable to play in the rescheduled Tournament will receive a full refund.

8. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE TOURNAMENT 

8.1. Players who withdraw from the Tournament for personal or other reasons before the draw is released, or after the draw is released but before the start of the Tournament, do not have an automatic right to a refund. This shall be considered by the Tournament Director(s) on a case by case basis and will depend on whether a replacement player is available. 

8.2. Players who withdraw from the Tournament for personal or other reasons after the Tournament has started are not entitled to a refund.

9. WAVIER OF LIABILITY

9.1 Players participating in this Tournament and related activities and events agree to and waive any and all rights, claims, demands or liabilities for bodily or emotional injury, injury to their reputation, or any other physical or other damage or harm that they might suffer, or any other claims of any nature against GSquash, its committee members, the Tournament Director(s), the Tournament organising committee, the GLTA, or any organisation, facility or individual associated with this Tournament and the related activities and events.
