Free Software for Windows

Unless otherwise noted, we have used all of the programs on this page and have found them to be very useful.

Open Office (Office Suite)
Highly recommended as a Microsoft Office replacement. I like it better than M.O. and it is free and always adding new features.
E-Sword (Bible Study)
Bible Study software with many features and a large selection of Bibles and other books. If you want it free use E-Sword, if you want more use Libronix (Contact us if you want Libronix).
AVG Free (Anti-Virus)
Anti-Virus with the same quality as the ones you would pay for.
Audacity (Sound Editor)
A nice, full featured sound editor (Rob uses it for making listening texts for teaching)
the Gimp (Photo Editor)
Nicknamed "Free Photoshop" due to its look, usability, and feature set.
iTunes (Sound File downloader/organizer)
Does a nice job of organizing all your sound files. However, we use it almost exclusively for downloading free sermons.
WinPatrol (System Monitor)
Monitors your computer to make sure nothing is being installed without your knowledge.
CCleaner (Hard Drive Cleaner)
Cleans out files that are not used by any programs, etc. Can clear space on your hand drive and increase performance.
Thunderbird (Email)
Similar to Outlook, but free.
Firefox (Web Browser)
More secure and powerful than Internet Explorer. (IE works ok though so this may not really be necessary.)
jKDefrag (Computer Defragger)
A free Disk Defragger that can work normally, or as a screen saver when you are away.
CDex (Sound File Converter)
Converts WAV files to MP3 and vise-versa. Can also extract sound files from disk.
Skype (Computer Telephone)
Call computer to computer for free (including video) or call a land line anywhere in the world (almost) at local rates.
Zone Alarm (Firewall) You may need to look around on their site, but the basic fire wall is good and free.
CuteWriter (Print to PDF)
Print from any program to PDF instead of to a printer
Spybot (Anti-Spyware)
Ad-Aware (Anti-Spyware)
Word Search Creator (Game) This is a basic program for creating English Word Search Puzzles.
Legend of Zelda (Game)
We are not big into computer games, but this exact remake of the original "Legend of Zelda" may take you back to the 80s.
Super Mario Bros. (Game)
This game is much like the original Super Mario Bros.
Ubuntu (Operating System - Linux)
I have not yet used this operating system, however it was recommended by a friend who knows computers and should run most of the free software mentioned in this list.
SimplytheBest (Fonts)
These are fonts, not programs, but they can be fun and useful to have.
Chinese Fonts
These Chinese fonts will only work if your computer can type in Chinese. These are fonts, not programs, but they can be fun and useful to have.
