Older women... are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children. (Titus 2:3-4, ESV) Good, uplifting, Christ-centered marriages do not come naturally or easily. They take work and effort. Recently a young couple asked if we would be willing to meet with them to help them prepare for their upcoming marriage. What a blessing! In a world where marriage is taken so lightly this couple wanted to invest the time to prepare. This was exciting, but also made us a little nervous. What should we share? Who are we to counsel another couple? We have so many areas we are still growing. We have found that by counseling another couple, not only are we getting to know them better (and hopefully helping them prepare for their marriage), but seeing our own marriage challenged and deepened as well. When we knew this time would be coming we contacted my family and church for resources. Unfortunately, we are overseas and most of the resources weren't available to us at that time, but they said they use "Preparing for Marriage" by Dennis Rainey as their book for premarital counseling. We ended up using Genesis 2-3 as the basis for our counseling and have been amazed at the depth of marrital wisdom that is present in these 2 chapters. When the notes are more fully developed we will post them and other helpful forms here. If you would like them as is, feel free to contact us. Our first wedding sermon can been downloaded here. It was delivered by Rob, with Elyse translating. |
