KS5 Planning an Experiment

KS5 Home

You could consider formatting your plan as follows (this is by no means the only way to do it, but is a pretty standard scientific approach that you'll probably use at University.):

INTRODUCTION:
What I'm trying to find out, the thechniques I'm going to use, & maybe equations for the 2 reactions you are going to do. You could even compare the thing you are investigating with something different and use this to lead on to a prediction.

MATERIALS & METHODS:
What you are going to do, how you are going to do it and the equipment/ reagents you are going to use.
Think of writing this so that an AS student starting Chemistry next year could complete the practical from your method - without having to ask for help.

RESULTS:
In your plan, these will be 'putative' (i.e. made up). This might be the place to put any calculations you want to include.

DISCUSSION:
Here you say why your experiments proved what you were trying to prove. You could also use this space to compare your results with others to underline your assertion.

[This is by no means a template for success. You will need to use the examination board's mark schemes to hone in on the specifics the examiners are looking for.]
