Ladies Tunbridge Wells League – Greens will go up a division next year

Men’s Tunbridge Wells League - have stayed in 2nd Division by winning the last game

We have done fairly well in our friendly games but unfortunately unable to find the form from last year that took us to very near the top of the Horam league, we have ended up in the bottom half.

We look forward to a better result next year

Jill Woolger, Richard Monk & Beryl Seal won the competition organised by and for the Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead – the Simmonds cup

American Pairs Tournament

We had a very successful day, with fine weather and satisfied contestants. We raised £1077 to boost our coffers for future improvements (see below). The tombola raised £460 and the raffle £205. A huge thanks to everyone for their contribution to the success of the day.

Matches

In the Horam League we have won 9 and lost 8 . We have won 16 friendlies and lost 5. Pat is having difficulty getting enough players at weekends recently. Please offer yourself as much as possible to ensure we do not have to cancel games or go with incomplete teams, which has happened recently.

The men’s team have won 5 lost 4 and gained 20 points.  The ladies Greens team have won 10 lost 1 and the Grasshoppers won 3 lost 7.

Please look at the website to see the complete results compiled by Duncan. Go to     www.groombridge.com  where you will find a link to our website.

Membership

Our membership is down considerably compared with last year at 32 paid up with a possible 6 more as a  few new people have turned up recently. Encourage anyone who might be interested.

Competitions and Dates to note

Finals Days are on Saturday and Sunday 29th and 30th August so all semi-finals have to be completed before then. President’s Cup matches have to be completed by the 21st August to enable semi-finals to be played the following week.

Lads and Lasses combined with the 90th anniversary party is on Saturday 9th September. It is always a highly competitive match but a load of fun so please get your names down on the list.

Working Parties

Fred and I will be at the ground at 9.30am this Thursday 6th August. We would like some company. The monthly working party is this Sunday morning 9th August and Barry will be pleased to see you then.

Committee

The committee meets monthly and the minutes are pinned up in the clubhouse for you to see. Any comments for the committee are welcome. You will see that we have set up a small sub-committee to look into the possibility of installing a watering system for the green. This will relieve Barry of a lot of work and also provide more controlled watering and therefore more consistent and even grass growth.

Reminder

If you close the gate with the combination lock, please make sure you scramble the number so that is quite different from the required number. It has been left unchanged recently. Thanks!
