Gresley Boys Choir

Acknowledging the demise of church choirs in todays society and the resultant negative effects of failure to provide choral training for young boys the choir decided to form it's own Boys Choir.

The choir was formed in September 1996 with nine members under the Musical Directorship of Roy Davies, the retired MD. of the adult choir. It made its debut performance in May the following year with fourteen singers at Gresley's Annual Charity Concert in Trinity Church, George Street Burton-on-Trent. Since then the choir has sung in numerous venues around the area including Derby Cathedral, the Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton on a number of occasions and appeared for the National Association of Choirs in various venues in addition to concerts in many of the local churches amounting to some 40 concerts.

All boys are welcome to join the as soon as they are able to read text. A music folder is provided for them to take home in order for them to learn the words; the music is taught at the rehearsal.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings 6.10 to 7.15pm in West Street Methodist Church Schoolroom, Swadlincote. Parents are invited to sit-in during the rehearsal if they wish. The musical repertoire is varied to maintain the boys interest whilst at the same time providing choral and musical education; also providing an opportunity to perform in public and develop further their personality.
