Here is where we will list ideas and suggestions for projects for Green Mountain View members to actively support.

Project suggestions are listed below with notes from our April brainstorming meeting: 
 
Bicycling for Sustainability 
Low Carbon Diet Challenge
Mountain View Environmental Sustainability Task Force Report tracking and advocation. (link to report will be provided)
Reuseable Bag promotion for Mountain View Farmer's Market and City festivals.(possible sourcing of sponsorship from Green Business)

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

General Methods

      focus on smaller tasks at first

      pick some small achievable things to get groups started

      create successful first-time activities and they should continue

      how not to be tuned out as "noise"?

      slogans: "Everyone wants to save money"; "Save money and save the world"

      put appropriate message at appropriate location, e.g. drought-tolerant-plant info at nurseries, recycling info at the dump

Alliances/networking with other groups and organizations

      Develop Networks

      neighboring communities/cities

      faith communities

      schools, PTAs

      dayworkers

      gardening groups; California Native Plant Society

      Leadership Mountain View (each trainee must complete a volunteer project)

      neighborhood/homeowner associations

      newsletters

      competitions between them?

      service organizations, e.g., Rotary

      landscape workers (who are especially impacted by toxic pesticides)

      business community (collaborate with ongoing Chamber of Commerce projects; also note Central Business Association)

      City of Mountain View (volunteer database useable for special events? copy some of their forms, e.g., volunteer skills, rather than reinvent them?

Door-to-door giveaways-

      of enviro stuff, possibly combined with emergency preparedness; and collaboration with Acterra work?

      local green business listings? (e.g., to find gardeners who don't use pesticides or noisy gas-powered blowers) Exist? Need publicity?

PLANTS, BIODIVERSITY

      runoff from yards should go into ground, not storm drains/Bay

      promote home gardening

      avoiding use of pesticides, herbicides

      xeriscaping info, promotion

      nurseries have few drought-tolerant plants

      water agencies can provide materials and lit--make sure it's at nurseries

      backyard wildlife habitat

      community gardens

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Apartment complexes

      increase recycling by improving information, making sure containers are there, multilingual labelling

      management should have info on recycling to give to new tenants

      what can and cannot the SMaRT station do, in sorting?

Art and Wine Festival (and other local festivals)

     The Chamber of Commerce has offered to provide "outreach" package help if GMV will maintain and monitor recycling and waste containers at the next AWF,  September 12-13.

      educational outreach/monitoring to improve use of recycling containers

      goal: require vendors to use biodegradable or recyclable packaging
