Green Health Enterprise
About Green Health.
The Green Health Partnership ( BTCV, Rethink and Derbyshire County Council) was formed in 1999 to provide opportunities in practical conservation, horticulture and environmental art for people experiencing mental health related problems, living in Amber Valley, Erewash and Derby City. Most of the activities took place in Shipley Country Park and on sites throughout Derbyshire, where our volunteers worked alongside local environmentalists, the public and other volunteers from conservation agencies to improve the natural environment.
The partnership was dissolved in 2006 and the Green Health Enterprise was then launched with the goal of becoming an independent social enterprise within three years. Green Health is still working with its existing partners toward becoming an enterprise, though we are now receiving support from business consultants and voluntary sector advisers to aid the process.
Due to local demand and interest in the work of the project (and the expressed need for many people to have a useful role in life) our social care is diversifying to enable us to reach more people who we believe will benefit from being involved in green activities in a mutually supportive and friendly environment.
Along with its partners, Green Health facilitates the needs of groups and supports individuals who are socially disadvantaged by poor health, unemployment, age and disability, to take part in and enjoy a "green life". The project is run mainly by volunteers, trainees and students. Our project work is based on values that emphasise peoples' capacity to make an important contribution to the natural environment and to improve the lives of others. Everyone, therefore, has something to offer and people can help each other by sharing their knowledge, personal life experiences, practical skills....and humour!
