Greater Cherry Hill Chess was founded by Dan Herman approximately 4 years ago to give local players a nice place to compete.
Our monthly tournament, usually held on the 2nd Saturday of the month, has been divided into 3 sections: a G30 Swiss, a Quad, and an unrated Kid's Swiss. In 2010, we will be running Quads on the 2nd Saturday of every month. Swiss events may be held separately. In addition to competitions, Greater Cherry Hill Chess has hosted special learning events. The latest event was in August, when Grandmaster Alex Lenderman came to Cherry Hill to conduct a week long chess camp. The event was attended by both children and adults. Lenderman taught indefatigably, and those who attended learned from one of the best. Other great players who have delivered lectures. seminars, and lessons on behalf of Greater Cherry Hill Chess include Leroy Dubeck, Lev Alburt, and Gennadiy Zaitchik. Most of our events are held in the conference room in the Cherry Hill Library,
probably one of the best venues for chess in New Jersey.
I've been to many tournaments throughout New Jersey, and, while each has its own great features, none offers a venue as comfortable as ours. When you get a chance, come and check us out. Tournaments are listed on the Tournament Schedule page. For lunch, I order pizza, and people can get either pepperoni or plain for $1.25/slice. The library also has a coffee bar for drinks, sandwiches, and snacks. |
