Great Bear Writing Project

Great Bear News!

The Great Bear Writing Project will not be hosting a Summer Institute in 2012 because of our intense need to reorganize ourselves through our change in leadership and our loss of federal funding.

We will definitely be hosting a Summer Institute in 2013 and if you would like to go ahead and put your name forward for that, please do so by contacting Mike Rush, incoming director, at: mikerush2004@gmail.com

Please return to our site for further information as it develops.

Thanks!

Change in Leadership

On Friday, February 11, outgoing and founding director, Stephanie Vanderslice, ceremoniously passed the Great Bear to incoming director, Mike Rush.  The change won't be
official until May, when the current
school year concludes. Stephanie will continue to work with the site as the University Liaison" while in her work with the writing department, she
takes on the directorship of their new Masters of Fine Arts graduate program.

We wish them both the best in their new roles!

The Great Bear Writing Project

Our site is undergoing a year of restructuring. Our leadership will transition in May, and we will move forward for the first time as at site without federal funding.  The three main tenets of our site have always been and will remain:

  • To host a summer institute through which we will introduce new teachers to the core principals of the National Writing project, assist in their discovery of themselves as writers, develop their abilities as agents of professional development, and enhance their professional growth
  • To continue to offer quality programs of professional development to our teachers who have attended the summer institute allowing opportunities for both learning and teaching
  • To offer the schools within our service area quality professional development to enhance their faculty's professional growth as well as strengthen the teaching of writing, not only in language arts classrooms but across the curriculum as well
If you have any questions about our site please contact outgoing director, Stephanie Vanderslice at: stephv@uca.edu

Or incoming director Mike Rush, at: mikerush2004@gmail.com
