 About Granby House

 

 Granby House provides quality housing with support for older people from all walks of life, regardless of income. It is located in the Peak District village of Youlgrave, between Matlock and Bakewell. Granby House opened as a very sheltered home in 1990. Its aim was to provide a secure home for people who have a link with the area.

Residents have their own private, self-furnished room,  with en suite facilities, and with the security, and companionship of a household of eight people.
Residents live as independently as they wish, and have their own front door keys. Some choose to participate in the social events arranged in the house, and the regular outings. Others choose not to. There is a wide range of local societies and activities available in the village.

Management and staff
Granby House is run by an Executive Committee, a volunteer house manager, a housekeeper, a small pool of paid staff, and a number of volunteers. Each has an important role to play. The Executive Committee of the society holds full overall responsibility for: making sure the house is properly and fairly run; finances and fundraising; and developing partnerships with other organisations, especially local authorities.
The full time housekeeper prepares meals, runs the house and generally keeps an eye on everyone. The housekeeper is supported by assistants and by a group of volunteers who fill in when needed. Granby House is a Housing Association (Registered Social Landlord) and is regulated by the Housing Corporation.

Safety and security
The modern world can sometimes be frightening to lonely older people. At Granby House a great deal of attention is paid to making residents feel safe and secure. External doors close and lock automatically, there is a spy hole in the front door, and an intercom. Each resident's room has an alarm system so that help can be called for when necessary, and each resident is encouraged to wear a wrist alarm to call for help.
