Note: The symposium is open to a select number of undergraduates. Please apply and undergraduates will be notified on the same day as the selected participants notification date.

Contests and awards:

• Poster Presentation: One 1^st place & one 2^nd place winner each receives a plaque, certificate, and 5 honorable mentions receive certificates.
• Oral Presentation: One 1^st place & one 2^nd place winner each receives a plaque, certificate, and 5 honorable mentions receive certificates.
• AWIS Award: One $100.00 award for the top women in a STEMM field presenting at the conference.
• All participants receive participation certificates.
• All participants receive an invitation to the awards dinner following the graduate student symposium.

Oral Presentation Format: 

The following guidelines have been adopted for oral presentation:

• Abstracts scheduled for oral presentation will be grouped by topic.
• Talks are to be 15 min long with 5 minutes for questions.
• Slide font type should be easily legible. A minimum font size of Arial 18 or its equivalent is recommended.
• Figure legends are essential and should be short but informative.
• No extension on time will be entertained.
• Participants are asked to email their power point slides to the organizers by Mar 18. This is 100% optional. These can be drafts and are are only reviews to assure the quality of the talks to be given. Submission of your presentation is not required.
  
• Important Note: Please bring your Oral Presentation with you on a USB drive. We do not keep, upload, or post any presentations submitted to us.
  

Poster Format: 

Poster session is two hours in length. Authors should be available during that time to answer questions, expand on the material and take part in discussions. The following guidelines have been adopted:

• Abstracts scheduled for poster session presentation will be grouped by topic.
• Posters should be mounted on assigned boards. Your poster number will be posted on your board prior to set up. You can locate your poster number at the reception desk on the day of the symposium.
• The poster board surface area is 4 feet high by 4 feet wide. There will be 1 poster per side of each board.  4' by 4' is a max size. There is no required size.
• Availability of handout materials and photocopies of the abstract is helpful.
• Charts, drawings and illustrations should be at least 11”x14”. Type should be easily legible at a distance of several feet. Figure legends are essential and should be short but informative. Please do not write, draw or paste on the poster boards.
• There will be a supply of poster pins/Velcro tags available at the front desk.
