Painting the Genealogical  Portrait of

The Daniel Families of America - Southern States

This work was formerly for the Daniel, Daniels, Daniell, O'Daniel families of the Southern States.  That project started back in 1996 and I appreciate all the folks, some now deceased, who have contributed their time and information. We are now concentrating more on the author's family with a few allied families who contribute to this story. This project begins with Ambrose Daniel of Halifax County, North Carolina, whom I believe was in the line of William Daniel of Carolina County, Virginia; that is not a certainty, but a good circumstantial connection.

This coat of arms was granted in 1623 to the Daniel family of Lancashire, and was also borne by the Chester County family. The unicorn is strength. (This illustration was taken from a sketch in the Richmond Times Dispatch - date not shown) In the Middle Ages, Coats of Arms were used as a means of identifying Knights in battle and in tournaments. Today, they are used to identify and preserve tradition. By tradition, the author's family has accepted this Coat of Arms for a number of years.)
