What is the GLE?

The Gospel Listening Experience (GLE) is a process in four stages for the reevangelization, the recatechesis, the renewal and the reunion of any Christian household in an by the gospels according to Mark, Matthew, Luke/Acts, and John. Mark is the gospel for the reevangelization of a believer in the catechumenal way of the Lord to the Father. The Marcan text portrays Jesus’ redemptive way. Matthew's catechetical gospel trains disciples in the truth for the kingdom of heaven within the Jesus tradition. It is the gospel for the recatechesis of Jesus' followers. After disciples have been reevangelized and recatechized in the gospel way and in the gospel truth, they are renewed in and by the gospel life of Jesus within its ecclesial tradition according to Luke/Acts. Luke is the gospel for the renewal of one's life in a communal setting of a real-life situation. John tells us that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (Jn 14:6). The synoptic gospels re-form the believer's life according to Jesus' gospel way, gospel truth, and gospel life. John is the gospel of communion. It begins the gospel process of reunion with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as well as a deeper union with each other. Jesus already prays in the Gospel according to John that those who believe in him through the word, may all be one, even as you Father are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me (Jn 17:20-21). Through John’s Gospel, a disciple of Christ strives to become a “beloved disciple” of Christ. The GLE or the gospel encounter (GE) is a conversion experience of the Christian's return to the Lord. Christians need to experience the power of the gospels within the Jesus tradition not only in their initiation to the Christian life but also in their growth towards a holier Christian life.
