The Gospel according to Mark has two major parts:
In the notes in the second part of the book for Mark's Gospel in the gospel listening experience, I suggest the following subdivision: Chapter Five--Mark 1:1-3:6; Chapter Six--Mark 3:7-6:6; Chapter Seven--Mark 6:7-8:30; Chapter Eight--8:31-10:52; Chapter Nine--Mark 11:1-13:37; Chapter Ten--Mark 14:1-16:20. The subdivisions of each chapter are divided into several smaller selections for the individual sessions in a household. The six chapters in part two provide some notes for the followers of Christ who want to encounter Christ and his first disciples in a gospel listening experience of the Marcan text within the household. Mark’s Gospel will be used for the process of reevangelization of a Christian household. It will form Jesus’ followers on the way of the Lord to the Father.
The gospel listening experience (GLE) is a religious experience of a gospel rather than an exegetical exposition of a gospel. There are four levels of listening to every section of the GLE: proclamation, reflection, formation, and contemplation. There are notes in the book for the selected pericope of each chapter of Mark’s Gospel. They serve as an aid for the GLE in any household within the ecclesial community. They aim to move the listening heart to a true identification with Jesus Christ in the disciple's real-life situation within a given household and neighborhood. At the end of each session, I have some questions that may serve as a guide for the period of reflection. For the period of formation, the participants can supplement these notes with any good commentary on the Marcan gospel. For the period of contemplation, I provide some prayer formulas at the end of each section. |
