The main purpose of the GLE is to engage the listener in a dialogue with the entire Marcan text and to respond to it in one's own personal life and the real situation first within a given household and then in a given neighborhood. With the book for the Gospel according to Mark: MARK'S GOSPEL: Catechumenal Way of the Lord to the Father, I hope to open the Marcan text to listening hearts who want to have a religious experience of the gospel in the context of their own real-life situation in the real world today. The listener-response approach to the Marcan texts awaits an active audience, persons who want to dialogue with the text so that as they begin to listen and to reflect upon the text, they are also prepared to respond to it first of all in the home and then in the community. Thus, they actualize the gospel in their lives before they inculturate it in the real world.
