Photography

Not to bore the hell out of people with yet-another-oh-i've-discovered-photography page on the internet, this is primarily:

A few friends have asked me (usually after they see one of the scrapbooks Heather likes to put together) how they can jump from their little soap bar cameras to a DSLR system. The most common questions revolve around what equipment to start with without spending a fortune and how to step up from that once they are ready. I hope I've answered those to a certain extent here.

Once on the road to higher imaging, I find these resources to be helpful, in terms of techniques, processing and so on:

Photozone, a great site with technical reviews of DSLR systems and lenses.
Cambridge in Colour, galleries and excellent tutorials on prosumer photography.
The Digital Picture, another site with equipment reviews I enjoy reading.
Digital Photography School, a very interesting blog, forums and lists of resources.
LensPlay, a more technical reference that deals with techniques and mechanics of photography. Highly recommended.
PhotoCritic, another great blog, very active.
Photo-Freeware.net, looks like a spammy directory but that stuff is actually good. Lots of useful tools.
Photojojo, a bi-weekly newsletter with lots of information, tips, etc.
Rob Galbraith, the man.

Enjoy!
