Ten tough questions asked in job interviews

  1. What is important to you in a job?

Mention specific rewards other than a paycheck for example, challenge, the feeling of accomplishment, and knowing that you have made a contribution.

  2. Why do you want to work for this organization?

Cite its reputation, the opportunities it offers, and the working conditions. Stress that you want to work for this organization, not just any organization.

  3. Why should we employ you?

Point to your academic preparation, job skills, and enthusiasm about working for the firm. Mention your performance in school or previous employment as evidence of your ability to learn and to become productive quickly. If the job involves management responsibilities, refer to past activities as proof of your ability to get along with others and to work as part of a team.

  4. If we hire you, how long will you stay with us?

Answer by saying along these lines: "As long as my position here allows me to learn and to advance at a pace with my abilities."

  5. Can we offer you a career path?

Reply: "I believe you could, once I know the normal progression within the organization. Can you tell me about it?" The answer may be revealing.

  6. What are your greatest strengths?

Give a response like one of the following: "I can see what needs to be done and do it", "I''m wiling to make decisions", "I work well with others," "I can organize my time efficiently."

  7. What are you greatest weakness?

Identify one or two, such as the following:" I tend to drive myself toohard", " I expect others to perform beyond their capacities", " I like to see a job done quickly, and I''m critical if it isn''t." Note these weaknesses could also be regarded as desirable qualities. The trick with this question is to describe a weakness so that it could also be considered a virtue.

  8. What didn''t you like about previous jobs you''ve held?

Discuss the things you didn''t like, but avoid making slighting reference to any of your former employers.

  9. How do you spend your leisure time?

Mention a cross section of interests-active and quiet, social and solitary -- rather just one.

  10. Are there any weaknesses in your education or experience?

Take stock of your weaknesses before the interview. Practice discussing them in a positive light. You''ll find that they are minor when discussed along with all the positive things you have to offer.

对话双 方:Interviewer (I)面试官Applicant (A)求职者。

例1:Q:Would you please say something about yourself?(请你谈谈自己的情况好吗?)

或者:What can you tell me about yourself?(关于你自己,你能告诉我些什么?)

A:Do you want me to talk about my personal life or to say something about the job?

2:I:Give me a summary of your current job description.

A:I have been working as a computer programmer for five years. To be specific, I do system analysis, trouble shooting and provide software support.

3:Why should I hire you?(为什么我应该聘用你?)

A:With my strong academic background, I am capable and competent.

4:Why do you want to work for us?(你为什么想为我们工作?)

A:One reason that I would like to be employed with your firm is that you are dealing with import and export trade. I would look

5:What goals have you set and how did you meet them?

A:I now wish to enter an office where the work requires greater individual responsibility and judgment than here, and where there is more opportunity for advancement.

6:I:What provide you with a sense of accomplishment.(什么会让你有成就感?)

A:Doing my best job for your company.

7:I:How do you handle your failure?(你怎样对待自己的失敗?)

A:None of us was born "perfect". I am sure I will be given a second chance to correct my mistake.

8:I:How do you normally handle criticism?(你通常如何处理別人的批评?)

A:Silence is golden. Just don’t say anything; otherwise the situation could become worse. I do, however, accept constructive criticism.

9:I:What is most important in your life right now?(眼下你生活中最重要的是什么?)

A:To get a job in my field is most important to me. To secure employment hopefully with your company. I hope to demonstrate my ability and talents in my field adequately.

10:I:How long would you like to stay with this company?(你会在本公司服务多久呢?)

A:I will stay as long as I can continue to learn and to grow in my field.

11:I:What range of pay-scale are you interested in?(你喜欢那一种薪水层次标准?)

A:Money is important, but the responsibility that goes along with this job is what interests me the most.

12:I:Do you know what's involved in a position like this?

A:Yes. I know exactly what's involved. I am a hard worker and will perform to the best of my ability."

面试时,着重考察应聘者“怎样表现自己(How it is performed )”。

13:I:What make you think you would be a success in this position?

A:I graduated from XX University in 2003, and hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Therefore, I have a firm knowledge background in this field. My graduate school training combined with my internship should qualify me for this particular job. I am sure I will be successful.

14:I:How do you rate yourself as a professional?(你如何评估自己是位专业人员呢?)

A:With my strong academic background, I am capable and competent. I think your unit needs a man like me.

15:I:Why do you think you are qualified for this position?

A:I have finished three new projects, and I am sure I can apply my experience to this position.

16:I:Do you think you are the right person for the job?

A:Yes. Because I do believe that my qualifications and experience perfectly match what you are looking for. I have the experience you are looking for,and think I will be one of the best in this field.

17:I:Why do you think you are qualified for this position?

A:I have spent the last 3 years working specially in this field. I think I can bring a lot of experience and knowledge with me. With my qualifications and experience, I feel I am hardworking, responsible and diligent in any project I undertake. Your organization could benefit from my analytical and interpersonal skills.

  自我介绍时应该记住“3P原则”:Positive(自信),Personal(个性),Pertinent(中肯)

所以回答要沉着、自信(Lacks confidence and poise),而不是心神不宁(is nervous and ill at ease)。

I’d like to hear your opinion.

So far as that is concerned, you must have understood my determination.

  1. Body Language (肢体语言)

Most interviewers greet the applicant with a handshake. Make sure that your clasp is firm. Being jittery about the interview can result in cold, clammy hands, which create a negative impression. Therefore, make sure your hands are warm and dry. Before leaving, try to find out exactly what action will follow the interview and when it will happen. Shake hands as you say good-bye and thank the interviewer for spending time with you.

Don't shake hand with the interviewer until he/she extends his/her hand. Don't sit down until invited to do so by the interviewer.

  2. Eye Contact (眼神的交流)

Always maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Make eye-contact with the interviewer during the interview. Show that you are confident by looking straight at the person.

Fails to look interviewer in the eye不敢正视。

  3. Active Listener (做一个积极的聆听者)

面试时要Listen actively and stay calm.

I’m grateful for your concern about the job at our company.

Thank you for your concern about our recruitment,We shall inform you as soon as we have made our decision.

We have known something about you. You know, we have to interview several applicants we make our final decision.

There is not prepared for interview. I don't know for sure. Lacks planning for career; has no purpose or goals.

Is unwilling to start at the bottom; expects too much too soon. Overemphasizes money; is interested only in the best dollar offer.

Has a poor personal appearance.

  Has limp, weak handshake.

Don't talk with your mouth full.

Don't blow your nose or use the toothpick at table.

       C(考官):May I come in?

I(应聘者):Yes, please. Oh, you are Jin Li, aren’t you?

  C:Yes, I am.

I:Please sit here, on the sofa.

  C:Thank you.

采用Excuse me. Is this personnel department?(请问,这里是人力资源部吗?)或Excuse me for interrupting you. I’m here for an interview as requested.(不好意思打搅了,我是依约来应聘的。)

  I:Your number and name, please.(请告知你的号码和名字。)

C:My number is sixteen and my name is Zhixin Zhang.(我是16号,我叫张志新。)

How did you come? A very heavy traffic?

Yes, it was heavy but since I came here yesterday as a rehearsal, I figured out a direct bus line from my school to your company, and of course,I left my school very early so it doesn’t matter to me.

I:You are talking shop. How will you carry out marketing campaign if we hire you?(你很内行。

  C:Sorry, sir. I beg your pardon.(对不起,能重复一下吗?)

I:I mean that how will you design your work if we hire you?(我的意思是如果我们决定录用你,你打算如何开展市场工作?)

C:Thank you, sir. I’ll organize trade fair and symposium, prepare all marketing materials, and arrange appointments for our company with its business partners.(谢谢。

I:Do you know anything about this company?(你对本公司的情况了解吗?)

C:Yes, a little. As you ××mentioned just now, yours is an America-invested company. As far as I know, ××Company is a world-famous company which produces cosmetics and skincare products. Your cosmetics and skincare products are very popular with women in all parts of the world.(是的,了解一点点。

  在希望对方重复问题时,除了I beg your pardon.

Would you please rephrase your sentence?

As far as I know(据我所知),表示你一直在认真听对方的谈话。 As it is shown in my resume(正如我的简历所提到的)

  或As my previous experience shows(如我之前的工作经验所示)之类的表达法。

You may get along well with your boss but there will always be that specific instance where you want to say more than you should. Here are ten things that you should not say to your boss.

1. In a minute.

Sometimes you'll get called into the boss' office just as you're about to do something that you've been waiting to do.

Bosses don't often view our personal wants as an important factor to the job, so when your boss calls you in to see them, it's not good to say you'll be there in a minute.

2. Oops, I forgot.

And we do get so busy that we can't remember everything, but some things may not be well received when we say that.

So, instead of saying you forgot, try, "I"m on it but I haven't got through to them yet'. It's like saying the glass is half full instead of half empty. They mean the same; one just sounds better.

3.不行!
3. No!

If the boss comes to you with a project to do, it's not always in your best interest to refuse to do it.

You could suggest someone else do it or declare how busy you already are, but to say no might not be appreciated.

4. You don't know that?

Most bosses like to feel that they know everything, although you and the rest of the office may differ in opinion on that issue.

Try beginning your sentence with, "You probably already know this ". This shows your boss that you respect their intelligence, even though you know better.

5. You're late.

Being late has come to be one of those privileges that may inconvenience you but is their seniority right. Telling them they are late could be seen as undermining their position over you.

6. Ooh, ugly tie!

There may be times that your boss wears the ugliest tie on earth but it is not your place to tell them. They are aware how they dress and maybe the tie was a gift that they couldn't say no to wearing.

Or maybe they just have bad taste, but that is their privilege.

7. I hit your car.

Yes, it could happen that you bumped your boss' car in the parking lot. It's only right that you tell them what you did but it's still not the greatest thing to tell your boss.

8. Who's the guy I saw your wife with at the bar last night?

This is one of those things that you really don't want to get involved with. If you tell your boss and then his wife proves you wrong, that could be the beginning of the end for you.

9. How much do you make a year?

We all would love to know the truth about that one, and maybe some boss' are free to discuss it. But generally, it's a big no, no.

10. Can I have another raise?

Most companies have a set program for raises and you need to understand that plan so that you don't look foolish and ask for a raise out of turn.

If you feel you're entitled then make sure you do a bit of research and find out the best time to ask.
