Coming Home

Have you been away from the Catholic Church and would like to return to the sacraments?

If so....Welcome Home!! We are so glad to have you joining us again!

God is a God of love, mercy, kindness and forgiveness.  The image Jesus uses in Scripture as being The Good Shepherd is particularly meaningful to us at Good Shepherd parish. God the Good Shepherd leaves the 99 sheep to search for the sheep that has been lost. He seeks us out, He comes after us, and when He finds us, He carries us on His shoulder to bring us back to the flock.  In God, our sin doesn't cause Him to hate us or neglect, rather, it is an opportunity for Him to show His love, grace, and kindness all the more.

While on your journey back home, might we suggest this website, Catholics Come Home, to be a resource to you to help answer questions you might have.  In addition to this, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 858-271-0207 to talk to us about returning to faith. You can either make an appointment with one of the parish priests, or you can contact Kim, the director of Adult Faith Formation (goodshepherddcm@gmail.com).

What are the steps to returning to the sacraments?
If it is a matter of not going to Mass and drifting away from the sacraments, what you need to do is receive the sacrament of Confession, and you can begin receiving the sacraments once again. The sacrament of Confession (also called "Reconciliation" or "Penance") is available every Saturday at 3 pm at Good Shepherd, or available by appointment (call 858-271-0207). Receiving this sacraments restores you to communion with the Church!

If you are currently in a marriage that is not a valid Catholic marriage (if you were married in a civil union, or in a non-Catholic Christian Church), then in order to return to the sacraments, you would first begin by making an appointment with a priest to work on a marriage convalidation.  You can make an appointment by calling the Parish Office, 858-271-0207.

If you formally left the Church by professing faith in another religion or faith community, in order to return back to communion with the Church, you would simply make a Profession of Faith and receive the sacrament of Confession. Please contact the Parish Office at 858-271-0207 to arrange this.
