About Michael

My research interests are largely focused on Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) and its chromophoric or light-absorbing component (CDOM). DOM is the most dynamic, complex and least characterized component of the global carbon cycle and its molecular composition remains largely unknown. New analytical capabilities to analyze the molecular composition of DOM came online in recent years and are applied in my lab to shed light on the molecular diversity and reactivity of extremely complex DOM in aquatic environments such as streams, estuaries including the Chesapeake Bay, and the open ocean.
