Who is eligible? 

All students in University of Michigan graduate and professional school programs are eligible. The Ford School of Public Policy is the sponsoring school and provides the majority of the funding. Approximately 80% of the spots are allocated to Ford School students.

When are applications due?

Applications are due in October 9, 2009.

When can I find an application?

The application is available at http://sites.google.com/site/goipsa/iedp/.

What do I have to do to fill out the application?

Go online and download the application and follow the directions on the application. If you do not follow the directions, your application will no be reviewed.

How many spots are available?

21 spots will be determined by application. A few alternates will be chosen.

What makes a good essay?

A well written essay shows interest in the selected country and/or economic development. In addition to what you know, reviewers look for what you will learn and contribute to the group.

What is the selection criteria?

Diversified class: your ability to articulate what you can contribute to the class and what you will benefit from the class.  Outside of that, language ability, in-country experience, other additional criteria.

Who reviews the applications?

A panel of anonymous readers reviews the applications. They read the applications without knowing who the students are that are applying.

Does the IPSA board have any say so in who goes? 

No.

How are dual degree students considered ? 

Dual students with the Ford School are considered Ford School students?

For the five non-Ford slots that are open, do you diversify from different schools? 

There is no set diversification criteria. Non-Ford applicants will be evaluated on the strength of their application.

In past years, how many first year vs. second year students were selected for the trip?

Four first year students were selected for the trip last year.

When and how do I find out if I am selected?

The selection process takes about 10 days. We aim to email students as to whether they have been selected before the Fall Break.
