In short, as an ideal student, you are knowledgeable, eloquent, creative, inquisitive, energetic, cooperative, independent, and trustworthy. In other words, you are just like your research advisor! Or like any of the professors at this university!

Recos for a grad student:
attend colloquia and seminars.
seek advice from knowledgeable faculty members or the director of graduate studies in your department to select courses.
You should seek a thesis advisor who can help you meet your professional goals, and whose working style is compatible with yours.
If you are an international student, while you are in the department, use English. Your professional success will depend on your skill in oral and written communication in English, and the more practice you have, the better you will become.

  • International students admitted to Georgia Tech must demonstrate sufficient resources that can be used to cover at least the first year of graduate study. You must obtain certified documents from your financial institution that these funds are available from personal/family accounts, sponsors (accompanied by letters of support from sponsors), or official governmental documents of support. If you have no funds available, you should indicate on the application that you require financial aid in order to attend and no documentation will be expected. You MUST fully complete Part 3 – Information from Non-Citizens Form on the online application. You are asked on this form to indicate the support you have available over a four year period of time. If you have funds available for all or part of these years, you should indicate the amount available in each of the four boxes and send certified bank documents attesting to this. Most departments will not consider international applications until this documentation has been provided. If you have no funds available, you should enter zero in the boxes and should have indicated on Part 1 of the application that you require financial aid.
