The Price of Dystopia
Technology Friend or foe?
The difference between the truth and reality is the price we pay for them. There is no perfect world and there would never be; unless ,we cease to exist. We will always search for perfection, always fight for the truth, but in the end the reality will always be different! Karl Marx put it best in his communist manifesto "The ruling ideas of each age have ever been the ideas of its ruling class" (27):The poor will fight to gain access to what is rightfully owed to them; the elites will fight to keep control and dominate. Our present world is no different from the world our parents knew or their parents. Our world is full of Wars, corruption, lies, and inequality; rapped on the ideas of justice, freedom, democracy, and equality.Just take for example our entertainment today- sorry, the news. Our gas prices are going up, our economy has been going into a recession for years, the war on Iraq has killed thousands of soldiers, and destroyed thousands of Iraqi homes, and we are still fighting because the "mission (is) accomplished?" The media's advice on how to help our country is to "go shopping." |
Evidently who is to blame here is the misuse of technology and the power it gives to "those whose economic hold over society is greatest;" "A technological rationale is the rationale of domination itself" (Adorno2). It is through Technology that we are told what we need to know, see, and hear. Our
technology has become the weapon most used for creating wars, slaving
societies, freeing a country?,keeping peace? Creating the Utopia we
need! It is unfair to say we weren't warn about the future: the
literature, art, and music have been the instrument in which their authors have reach their hands and shout out the truth to the world.
