An explanation straight from Jeshurun D'Cruz , drummer/vocalist for Celestial Portal, "Like a knife, music by itself is neutral - not good, not bad. It is the purpose for which you use music that is important." The purpose behind their music is evangelism, he says. And they use metal to reach out to a certain audience .And if you think metal is violent, so as D'Cruz replies, "God is much bigger than mere church music. It's a misconception that Christian music has to be limited to the walls of a church."It may be loud. It may be crazy. But heaven metal gets its validation from the spinal cord of Christianity, The Holy Bible. Psalm 150 urges Christians to "praise Him with harp and lyre" and with a "clash of cymbals" . The Old Testament exhorts them to "make a loud noise unto the Lord" (Psalm 98:4). The harps are now electric guitars and the clash of cymbals the thrash-smash-flash of monster drum kits... The noise may have gotten louder but the soul still whispers through. E.P.W - Embers Of a Perfect WorldGenesis has always been a ground to support and promote new talents and this time its Embers Of A Perfect World. EPW will be debuting on March 5th at Genesis 2010 to set stage for Celestial Portal and they promise an entertaining, energetic and headbanging performance. The band came about when Jairaj Joshi, (ex-Sincerely Wasted). Aaron Braganza and Darren Pereira (Another Wasted Day, Death by Homework, etc.) got together with Jude Mascarenhas (ex- Hybrid) for an impromptu jam session. Two hours later the core of what would go on to become Embers was formed. Initially the lineup had Jude as the sole guitarist, with Jairaj on the drums, Aaron on the Bass and Darren on vocals. Guitarist Kadesh D’souza (ex-Celestial Portal , Psychis Disorder, etc) found himself interested by the band sound and after a few trial sessions decided to become a permanent part of the band, becoming the rhythm guitarist and contributing backing vocals. Later vocalist Warren Menezes (ex-Psychic Disorder) was brought in to lend greater range to the band’s sound.![]() Present Line-Up Drums: Jairaj Joshi Bass: Aaron Braganza Lead Guitar: Jude Mascarenhas Rhythm & backing vocals: Kadesh D'souza Vocals: Darren Pereira Vocals: Warren Menezes The band draws inspiration from a variety of sounds and bands. Bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeath are reflected in the mellow solos of the lead guitarist, while bands like Slipknot, As I lay Dying, Bullet For My Valentine, Seether, System of a down etc are a huge part of the rhythm and lyrical structure. The band has a firm mindset and approach toward cover songs, while they cover everything from legendary favourite like Iron Maidens prowler and Fear of the Dark to popular songs like B.Y.O.B and Tears Don’t Fall by System of a Down and Bullet For my Valentine respectively. The band blends heavy aggressive music like Devildriver and Fear Factory, contrasted with songs that have greater political meaning like Killing in the name of by Rage against the machine. While they love covering songs in tribute to the bands they admire, the band as a whole is deeply involved with the creative process-- writing a lot of their own music which they hope to circulate. So come out friends and fill the air of INOX Courtyard with seamless energy on 5th March. |
