Miruka Market is located in the NW corner of West Mugirango Constituency in Nyamira District of Gusiiland, in Nyanza Province, Kenya  The market center is also known as Riochanda.  This center holds a popular weekly periodic market on Wednesdays that is attended by hundreds of small traders in commodity goods and livestock.  Because of its location at the border of Nyamira and Rachuonyo districts, Riochanda is a critical market center for the rural market economy between the two communities of Abagusii and the Luo.  The Abagusii from the highlands, Masaba, call Miruka Market 'Bogere' ("Luoland") because of this strategic location 'almost in Luoland'.  We who grew up around the market in fact know and speak very little Dholuo!
