What is SSR?

Home

SSR stands for Silent Sustained Reading.

Your child should be bringing a book to class EACH DAY to read for 15 minutes each day. Each student needs to do one book chat per six weeks with me. A book chat happens after a student finishes a book. I ask questions and have them tell me about the book to check their understanding. The grade the student receives on this book is worth a test grade.

Students should be actively reading each day. Studies show that readers:

  • get better grades
  • get higher test scores
  • get better jobs
  • and so much more!

Encourage your child to read his/her SSR book at home, too, and to tell you all about it!
