1998 Chevrolet Express 3500 - Camper conversion - 5850$

The car: The car is reliable and efficient. It's moderate on gas (~13L/100km) and fluids. A second independent battery supplies the fridge and several plugs in the car with power. The extra battery only connects to the engine when running. It is charged by an solar panel on the car's roof anytime. The body is in great condition but the common minor patches of superficial rust. The engine is powerful and accelerates just fine even in the mountains. An integrated blockheater makes sure the car runs fine even on cold winter days. The interior:The camper is equipped with a 2 person bed, a Waeco 12V fridge, a Coleman 2 burner propane stove with bottle and several fluorescent and LED interior lights. The power supply is handled by an auxiliary 110 amp/hr deep cycle gel battery which is connected to a 400W inverter and can be recharged by a 80W solar panel on the roof. The auxiliary battery is recharged by the solar panel at all times during the day and also by the engine charging system when the car is running. When the car is not running the battery isolator cuts the connection between the auxiliary and main batteries so that the main battery is only used for starting and running the car. Two 110V and four 12V powerplugs will let you connect or recharge any electronic devices in the car. There is also a 53 litres (14 gallons) fresh water tank with hand pump faucet in cooking area. A roof vent and 5 windows will keep the car cool in summer, even on hot days you can still stay comfortably in the car. Additionally there is a roll-up/detachable awning with adjustable poles to hang out outside.

Since the camper has been thoroughly insulated, you also can use it in wintertime. A special, long storage area in the back provides room for skis or snowboards. The all season tires provide a good grip even in snowy conditions and if it's too crazy, there are snow chains in the back which come with the camper.
