108: Mala Making and Japa Meditation Workshop with Carson from Evolve and Hayley from Ornamentea Saturday, September 20, 2008, 2-4pm @ Evolve Yoga, 215 Bickett Blvd, Raleigh www.evolveyogaraleigh.com www.ornamentea.com Rooted in mathematics, astrology, religion and yogic philosophy the sacred number 108 signifies the wholeness of our existence and the interconnectedness of the universe. Birthed from Vedic traditions in ancient India, 108 is most commonly seen in the mala, the beaded necklace that inspired the rosary. Similar to the rosary, the mala is used during meditation to recite 108 rounds of mantra or prayers of peace. In this workshop you will learn more about the history and significance of 108 while creating your own mala from the beads of your choice. Once the malas are strung, we will conclude with a Japa (mantra) meditation to bless our new prayer beads and send thoughts of unconditional happiness into the world. Like all Global Mala events this weekend, we are asking for a by-class donation of
$9-$18 or a weekend Deva Donation of $108. All proceeds collected from
all three studios go to support Prevent Child Abuse NC. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED* Please, call (919) 760-0546 or email carson@evolveyogaraleigh.com to reserve your space. *Once you have pre-registered you will receive a supply list and coupon, to take to Ornamentea prior to the workshop. There you can pick out and purchase the beads that you would like to use the day of the event to create your mala. Return to Global MALA Raleigh |
