Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the GLIFAA Letter
Q: What is GLIFAA? A: Since 1992, GLIFAA is the officially recognized organization representing the concerns of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender personnel in the U.S. Department of State, USAID, Foreign Commercial Service, Foreign Agricultural Service, and other U.S. foreign affairs agencies and entities. Q: How are you going to deliver your letter to the Secretary? A: We will print a hard copy of this letter and deliver it to the Secretary's staff following her confirmation by the Senate. We will hand-carry copies to other offices.
Q: How many signers do you need? A: More! The more signers we have, the more our incoming Secretary will realize that her staff - regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity or employment at State or other foreign affairs agencies - care deeply about their colleagues. Q. Is GLIFAA allowed to send a letter like this to the Secretary? A. Yes and we consulted with senior management. Q: Why do you need my email address? What are you going to do with it? A: We need to confirm that you are in fact an employee of a Foreign Affairs agency. If you are a retiree or returned peace corps volunteer and do not have a .gov email address, please tick "other" and note your retiree or RPCV status. Secondly, we will send you an email to confirm your participation in this campaign. Please note that because we manually verify each response, it may take several days for you to receive this email. We will only add you to our mailing list if you separately make this request.
Q: Is it too late for me to sign the GLIFAA Letter? Are there other ways I can still help?A:
The GLIFAA board decided to cease advertising the letter at noon on
Washington time on January 20, when we had over 2,000 names on our letter.
We are planning to present the Secretary a list of all the employees
who signed the letter before that time. If you'd still like to show
your support, you should sign the letter and encourage your friends to
do the same. If we get to another landmark figure like 2,500 or 3,000,
we can always call the Secretary's office and let her know, which means
your efforts could prove to be very helpful. If you'd like to learn
more about how you can help GLIFAA with future efforts, please sign up

activities, our social events, and other ways you can help GLIFAA
advance equality in our workplace.
