THE CLUB OPERATES UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CITY OF OTTAWA
For the benefit of all, the rules set out below must be adhered to by every member at both Glens Tennis Club locations: Grenfell Glen and Pineglen. Remember that these are your courts; your fairness, courtesy and honesty are essential in keeping the club operating successfully.
1. Courts are available for play only from 7 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. When playing, ALL players’ tags must be hung on the pegs on the reservations board in line with the time of play and the court chosen. If they are not, the court MAY BE CLAIMED by other members (with tags of course).
2. Booking of Courts: Reservations may be made only after 7:00 a.m. on the day of play and the names of all players and the date must be written on the board in chalk in the box opposite the time of play. Reservation boards will be cleaned each day by someone designated by the Club Executive.
a. Court booking is on a first-come first-play basis on the day of play and members may only make one booking of one hour duration at a time. This applies to both singles and doubles. Of course, after the match a member may book any other timeslot that is open.
b. Members scheduled to play in organized activities MAY NOT make reservations or use reserved courts on the same evening.
c. Organized Club activities take precedence over individual bookings. Therefore, please check the list of weekly activities and tournaments (posted on the notice boards and on our website) before making your booking. This is to avoid disappointment if you turn up to play and find that the courts are in use for group lessons, tournaments, Monday evening team tennis doubles, Thursday evening drop-in doubles or a Nepean League NCTA home match etc.
3. Courts may be used for practice by one player as long as two or more other players do not wish to use the court. A court booking is only legitimate if two persons show up to play (either must be senior or have senior privileges after 8:00 p.m.).
4. ‘Evening Play’ begins at 6:00 p.m. From 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. each evening all courts are reserved for senior members only, and only senior members may book courts. Juniors may only play after 6:00 p.m. as follows:
a. if they are playing in a scheduled club competition;
b. if club instruction is in progress, and they are participants;
c. if the courts are unoccupied and no seniors wish to play (seniors have the right to take any court);
d. if they are playing with an adult who has booked a court between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.;
e. juniors may not book after 6:00 p.m. but may play on unused courts for one timeslot and then accede to any other juniors waiting to play;
f. up to eight (8) juniors may be designated as ‘Privileged Juniors’ and as such will have senior privileges.
5. Except during lessons, no more than four persons may share a court.
6. Only heelless soft-soled running shoes are permitted on the courts.
7. All guests are required to pay a day membership fee of $4.00 ($3.00 for juniors) or a weekly membership fee of $10.00. Temporary membership tags and passes may be obtained from the designated members of the club executive whose names are listed on the back of the court bulletin boards (visible from outside the courts). The tags and passes must be placed on the pegs during play. Players who have not paid will be asked to leave the court by members of the Club Executive. Please note that this is a provision of the City of Ottawa.
8. Non-members are not allowed on the courts at any time except as guests.
9. It is a member’s duty to be courteous on and around the courts, to leave the courts and area tidy, to LOCK unoccupied courts when leaving, and TURN OFF LIGHTS when leaving.
10. Children under the age of seven (7) are not allowed on the courts at any time, except when taking lessons and during the day when accompanied by an adult member and when no members are waiting to play.
