Bring your leaves to Wallace Marine Park to be composted this Saturday December 3, 2011, 9 am-3 pm. The Fall Leaf Haul provides a way for homeowners to drop off grass clippings and leaves (no limbs accepted), and to turn them into compost locally. Keeping leaves out of storm drains helps reduce the potential for clogged storm drains and flooding.
Also bring food or cash donations for the Marion-Polk Food Share and Parks Tradition Fund. |

We had a tremendously successful day on Saturday, September 17th, at Wallace Marine Park. 275 volunteers turned out to spread wood chips on trails, paint curbs, and pull weeds. See the article in the Statesman Journal for more information.
Perhaps this story gives you the urge to grab your gloves, get out, and beautify our parks and neighborhoods? Ya? Well...consider joining us this weekend at the Eola-Woodhaven detention basin on September 24th from 9 AM to noon. Hope to see you there! |

Success! The SOLV IT Wallace Marine Park "No Ivy" League kick-off event was a great success with more than 42 volunteers coming out to tackle ivy and other invasives. Volunteers tossed their rain jackets aside, took out their sunglasses and rolled up their sleeves for some muddy weed pulling. Thanks to SOLV for advertising and providing material for the event. Thanks to City of Salem for providing tools and Parks and Recreation for disposing of debris. Thanks to Glenn-Gibson Watershed Council for the coffee and donuts. And especially thanks to all the volunteers and the students from Delphian School for spending their Saturday morning helping save vegetation from being overrun by ivy.
To celebrate our success we launched a new tab on our website for the "No Ivy" League complete with pictures from our first event. Check it out!
Also, don't forget to keep checking back for updates on the next NIL events. |
