The Jazz Ensemble at GKHS is a performing ensemble that has the luxury of meeting as a class. The goal of this band is to learn different styles of "Big Band" music and comprehend and develop skills necessary to perform the highest quality jazz literature. In addition, students will learn the fundamentals of improvisation, and develop their skills to a level that allows them to comfortably play improvised solos during concerts.

The GK Jazz Ensemble performs a wide variety of literature ranging from jazz standards to rock and pop tunes to new compositions such as each year's IMEA commission.  You can catch the Jazz Ensemble performing at any of the Genoa-Kingston High School Band Concerts as well as the Choral Theme night and the GK Jazz Dance.

On April 12th 2008 the GK Jazz Ensemble welcomed a guest artist for the first time in school history.  Trumpeter Chris Davis joined the Ensemble for a wonderful evening of music at the 15th annual GK Jazz Dance.  The performance with Mr. Davis has started a wonderful tradition here at Genoa-Kingston High School and we look forward to welcoming more professional artists to our school for future performances.
