About the GKHS Concert Band

The Concert Band at Genoa-Kingston High School is a performance ensemble that strives to perform the highest quality of wind literature possible. By focusing on the fundamentals necessary for a high school band to progress in musical ability, the Concert Band will consistently strive to mature as an ensemble.  The goals of this ensemble are to build proper technique, tone, intonation, rhythm, and sight-reading skills.

Works performed by the Genoa-Kingston High School Concert Band include pieces by prominent wind composers such as Frank Ticheli, Steven Reineke, and Frank Erickson.  On May 12th 2008, nearly three months to the day after the Valentine's Day shooting at NIU campus, the GK Concert Band combined with NIU student and alumni musicians on stage for a special performance of Frank Ticheli's An American Elegy.

Every student in the Concert Band is required to perform at all scheduled concerts, football and basketball games (as determined by the director), as well as complete various homework assignments and one "Concert Review" paper each semester.
