Welcome to the Genoa-Kingston Drama Department!

Coming This Fall...

No, this is not the title of the play. We are going to be creating own own material for our fall production. We will be developing this project through this spring and summer. The theme of the evening will be seeing the world through the eyes of students or something like that. Watch for fall play dates later this spring so you can check out what springs from our collective mind!

Reconnect with our send up of the 1920's!

Taking care of your voice is important to the actor, whether you are in a play or musical.
Here is a good vocal warm up routine to follow when singing.

The Genoa-Kingston Drama Department is an extra-curricular group that strives to provide educational theater opportunities in both on stage and technical capacities.  The drama department and International Thespian Society Troupe #867 have worked hard to provide a quality theatrical experience for both the students involved in our fall and spring productions as well as for our audience.

Many of our students come into the high school with little more than an interest for the stage.  By taking on a wide variety of comedic and dramatic productions, we have cultivated that interest into talent at the high school level and beyond. Many of our students have continued to pursue drama after graduation; acting in college productions or being  involved with community theater like Genoa’s Community Showcase, Children’s Community Theater of DeKalb, or  DeKalb’s Stagecoach Players.  We have also helped generate interest in theater with younger students by holding a four-day drama clinic for students in grades 6-12.

Since the dawn of the new millennium, GK Drama has put on classic Broadway shows like Joseph Kesserling’s Arsenic And Old Lace and Neil Simon’s Fools, Tony award-winning shows like The Sound Of Music, The Pajama Game, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Crazy For You, Fiddler On The Roof, and last spring’s Seussical. We have also presented period pieces like 2006’s Seven Sisters and 2009’s Strange Boarders, and fairy tale whimsy like Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

On four occasions, GK Drama has been invited to perform at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival for students across the state. Our most recent appearance was last January at the University of Illinois, when Check Please was selected as a showcase performance.
