If you are looking for a relaxing break from a busy life, or a new place to explore, then this is the place for you.  This gîte is a newly refurbished old house in the village of Artenac, a small community in the commune of St Mary.  This is an agricultural area, with a lot of woods and forests, and is ideal for walking and cycling, or you may prefer just to wander around the village.  The towns of Chasseneul-sur-Bonnieure and La Rochefoucauld are not far away, and will provide for most of your needs, with both supermarkets and lots of small shops, bars, cafés, etc.  I can especially recommend the chocolatiers of La Rochefoucauld!  If you like a bit of history, there are chateaux at La Rochefoucauld (I wonder if Disney borrowed this one for their leisure parks!) and Bayers, and the incredible Roman site at Chassenon, which includes a very large double bath complex and temple site.  Then there are the attractions of Angoulême: the cathedral, the museums (including one for cartoons), the old quarter, the market hall, and the town hall which used to be the chateau, where lived Isabella of Angoulême (just one of the local links to British history).

The gîte has a large living/dining/kitchen on the ground floor, plus shower-room with wc and bidet, and 2 large bedrooms on the first floor.  There is a small private courtyard at the rear.  Children and pets are welcome, though outside space is limited.  Unfortunately, this property is not suitable for wheelchairs (too many steps).  It has a 1 épi classification with Gîtes de France, and 1 star with the Département de la Charente..  You can book the gîte direct with me, or with Gîtes de France (gitescharente.com).
