The first Pontiac GTO was produced in 1964. Nobody was aware of the oil crisis that was soon to come, and no reason to worry about gas mileage. Horsepower was the only thing that mattered and customers always waited for new and more powerful models. All the biggest producers tried their best to be competitive in this field and the concept "muscle car" was really important.

Some people maintain than Pontiac GTO is the greatest muscle car ever maid. All such statements are diffucult to prove. The roots might be some kind of nostalgia when middle aged men like me are still mourning the old goat that they solgt many years ago and only remember the good things about it.

I am not an expert in the history og science of Pontiac GTO. Even less do I maintain that these cars are better than other makes or models. My main aim is just to inform those (Icelanders) who might be interested in this peculiar vehicle and things linked to it.
