Hi everybody!
We entered the National Gingerbread House competition at Grove Park Inn Ashville, NC. They have an article you can read. We were in the Youth Category with about 100 other entries.
Everyone wants to know how we got entered in this contest. The Gingerbread Contest has been on TV the last couple of years. We wanted to enter so we did. The form is online. We wanted our gingerbread house to be as a far from the whole 'north pole' theme as possible so we came up with Hawaii. We have been watching Ace of Cakes on TV for ideas and Duff Rocks!
This is how we did it!
Planning started in August.
The rules were that everything had to be edible and we had to build on a 2x2' board no taller than 2'.
To get the scale right we built a model out of posterboard complete with an aluminum foil mountain and figures out of Sculpey. After making changing it around a bit we cut it apart and used the pieces to cut out the gingerbread.
We made a list, checked it twice and went shopping - what a load!
